I gave a presentation titled Blockchain & Clinical Trials at the QUALCON 2023 conference in Geelong, Victoria. I was excited when preparing my presentation as I see that fraud exists in supply chains. I chose the topic of clinical trials as I have seen that there is great benefit using blockchain, particularly from a quality assurance perspective when performing audits.
I used John Carlisle’s paper as an example, and his categorising of “zombie” trials to illustrate the false findings.
My goal was to spark conversations through the presentation, and I successfully achieved this as some conference attendees approached me with further questions. I explained that similar to how ChatGPT users don’t need to understand the underlying algorithms, blockchain users don’t necessarily need to comprehend the mathematical functions and cryptography behind this emerging technology. Instead, they can focus on its practical applications in supply chain management and auditing.
I enjoyed giving this presentation because I talked about this emerging technology, that it is not all about bitcoins and financial services, and correlated it with my favourite subject matter, quality assurance.
