Quality Assurance & Volunteer Work

Volunteer Work is a Form of Quality Assurance that Ensures Moral & Ethical Standards

I am a Quality Assurance (QA) specialist in quality management systems (QMS) such as ISO 9001: 2015. I am a passionate volunteer. I have been volunteering in different roles throughout my adult life. I love drawing parallels different aspects of my life, and so here’s a parallel about my role in quality assurance and my involvement in different

volunteering.

A QA – Volunteer Altruist – Does That Really Exist?

Yes. I am a QA specialist who divides their time to volunteer in the community. QA isn’t confined to the corporate realm; it’s a mindset that goes beyond that extending into the realm of community service. I find that volunteering becomes a canvas through which me as a QA specialist paint my meticulous attention to detail and systematic approach to create a positive impact that ripples far beyond. Here I will show you examples that as a QA expert I channel my skills through three distinct volunteering activities. The first is editing and reading newsprint articles over the radio for those who are print impaired (Vision Australia Radio, Adelaide), speaking at workshops encouraging women and girls into STEM (HerTechPath), and grant-writing for a surf lifesaving club (Goolwa Surf Life Saving Club).

  1. Reading Over the Radio – Precision in Communication: A QA specialist needs to focus on clear communication when delivering the different aspects within any QMS. Similarly reading over the radio demands articulate pronunciation and precise enunciation. Just as a QA professional ensures documentation is accurate and comprehensible, I bring the same dedication to making information accessible through spoken words, being clear and articulate to those who are listening.
  2. Encouraging Women and Girls into STEM – Building a Strong Foundation: I volunteer by speaking at workshops aimed at inspiring women and girls to venture into STEM fields. This aligns seamlessly with a QA specialist’s commitment to building strong foundations. As a QA specialist, I champion robust processes, and thus in this role I advocate for diversity and inclusion for more innovative and resilient future workforce. As both a QA specialist and a volunteer, I believe I am a catalyst of change, where as a QA professional I can plant seeds of inspiration that nurture future aspiring STEM enthusiasts.
  3. Grant-Writing for a Surf Lifesaving Club – A Systematic Approach to Fundraising: Crafting grant proposals for a surf lifesaving club mirrors my role as a QA specialist. I use a methodical approach in the grant writing process. The grant-writing journey is akin to a QA audit, requiring an organised methodology to address grant requirements, financial needs, and responsible fund utilisation. Through my grant-writing mastery, I have secured resources that help safeguard lives and communities.

Enriching Lives Through Volunteering

QA specialists like me possess qualities that effortlessly translate into the realm of volunteering. I have a strong attention to detail, precision in execution, systematic thinking, and effective communication skills that go beyond writing processes and procedures. By extending my expertise to the world of community service I am a good example that QA specialists enrich lives and act as a catalyst to making a positive change in society.
